FIELD: free-piston compression reactors; applicable, mainly, in pyrolysis of hydrocarbon materials. SUBSTANCE: free-piston compression reactor has two opposite cylindrical modules with covers on external ends and pistons in internal cavities with diameter d, interconnected and installed for reciprocation. Reactor also has two reactor regions located in cylindrical modules in above-piston spaces, windows in side walls of cylindrical modules for supply of processed material and discharge of pyrolysis products, and power supply unit with starting device. Power supply unit is made in the form of cylinder-piston couple with piston diameter D, with D>d. Said couple is installed between reactor cylindrical modules coaxially to them. Piston reciprocates and is connected by means of rods with the same length with pistons of reactor cylindrical module through holes in partitions made between ends of cylindrical modules and ends of cylinder of power supply unit provided with inlet and outlet windows and appliance for ignition of combustible mixture. Cylindrical modules has piston position pickups. EFFECT: extended assortment of processed materials due to conduction of endo- and exothermal reactions. 3 cl, 1 dwg
