FIELD: metallurgy, namely continuous casting of metal and manufacture, mainly of small rolled bars. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of feeding melt metal into annular cavity of mold formed by horizontal joining of members in the form of cantilever rolls with concave end faces. One of above mentioned rolls has opening for casting melt. On end surfaces of rolls there are zones for shaping and zones for expanding ingot. At rotation of mold annular ingot is formed in radial direction. Melt metal passes to shaping zone. After beginning of growing skin of solid phase, second roll is moved and rotated relative to first one. Crystallized areas have trend for shifting to gap formed in expansion zone where they are reduced until welding and simultaneously expanded by means of expanding zones of rolls for making billet of necessary size hold in expansion line at least by means of three supporting rollers. Then billet is separated from ingot for further treatment. Thickness of ready billet is no more than 12 mm. EFFECT: rectangular billet with enhanced mechanical properties, lowered cost for making billet. 3 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
