METHOD FOR CULTIVATION OF SORGHUM CROPS UNDER IRRIGATED AGRICULTURE CONDITIONS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying fertilizer and toxic chemicals in autumn upon harvesting of precursor crop; providing basic soil cultivation including turning of soil layer and embedding of plant and stubble remains; closing moisture supply and cutting slits in early spring; providing presowing treatment of soil; sowing seeds; effectuating preemergence cultivation of crops with following interrow cultivation until crop rows adjoin one another. Prior to basic cultivation of soil to 0.3-0.5 m depth, water accumulating reservoirs are provided. Water-accumulating reservoirs may be made in the form of mole drains of 0.2-0.3 m diameter or in the form of three-dimensional plowing zones of trapezium-shaped section. Upon plowing with turning of soil layer, early spring irrigation at irrigation rate of 200-300 cu.m/hectare is performed. After moisture closure, slits are cut to depth of 0.4-0.6 m with spacing of 1.5-2.5 m at an angle of 10-15 deg to direction of water-accumulating reservoir. Sowing process is effectuated 5-10 days later than set time in case of sowing under nonirrigated agriculture. Vegetative irrigation with 300-400 cu.m/hectare irrigation rate is performed after joining of plant rows. Method is used for cultivation of sorghum crops for further usage as green feed.
