FIELD: high-temperature synthesis; production of superhard and abrasive materials. SUBSTANCE: material to be treated, for example graphite 2 is heated by means of heating mixture 3. Ferrous thermit mixture may be used for the purpose. In the course of combustion of thermit mixture, iron is separated which is used as catalyst for diamond synthesis. After preheating, graphite 2 is subjected to impact pressure at simultaneous heating by means of explosive 5. Insulator 4 is placed between heating mixture 3 and explosive 5. Diamond obtained under action of high pressure and temperature is subjected to prompt cooling on metal substrate 1 made from copper sheet, for example. EFFECT: increased yield of diamond or cubic boron nitride; reduction of power requirements by at least twice. 4 dwg
