FIELD: carbon materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of superhard materials, in particular to preparing diamond- based material usable for manufacture of machining tools. Nano-dispersed diamond particles are subjected to action of predetermined pressures and temperatures, said diamond particles being covered by nanometric graphite or carbon particles, to give diamond-based particles with particle size between 1 and 500 mcm and no more than 2% noncombustible impurities, the latter being optimal for most diamond-containing powder applications. Invention also allows preparation of diamond particles larger than 500 mcm in size. EFFECT: expanded possibilities in manufacture of diamond-based materials. 10 cl, 17 dwg, 5 tbl, 29 ex
