FIELD: hydrogen generation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: photocatalyst is characterized by general formula m(a)/Cdx Zny MzS, in which "m" denotes at least one alloying metal as electron acceptor selected from Ni, Pt, and Ru, or oxidized compound of these metals; "a" denotes weight percentage of "m" within a range of 0.10-5.00; M denotes catalytic element selected from group including Mo, V, Al, Cs, Ti, Mn, Fe, Pd, Pt, P, Cu, Ag, Ir, Sb, Pb, Ga, and Re; "z" denotes M/(Cd+Zn+M) in atomic % within a range of 0.05-20.0; and "x" and "y" denote respectively Cd/(Cd+Zn+M) and Zn/(Cd+Zn+M) (both in atomic %) limited by 10.00 and 89.95. Photocatalysts of the present invention possess advantages in that they manifest high degree of photocatalytic activity, in particular in visible- and UV-emission treatments with CdS and ZnS photocatalysts, respectively. Implementation of invention allows use of wide-range emission sources. In addition, use of photocatalysts of invention enables overcoming limitation of activity by reducing agents during photochemical reaction.
