FIELD: optical spectral instrumentation engineering; spectrophotometry. SUBSTANCE: tomographic absorption spectrometer depends for its operation on spatial modulation of rays instead of widely used time modulation which makes it possible to measure absorbing and radiating characteristics of various transient radiation objects including plasma with spatial resolution. It has spectral instrument with focusing system, image receiver, and radiation ray generating unit placed behind object under investigation, The latter is, essentially, mirror with alternating reflecting and nonreflecting areas of surface for cases when exposure to radiation is effected using rays reflected from object under investigation. When external standard radiation source is used for the purpose, this unit is made in the form of alternating transparent and opaque areas of surface through which rays are passed to object under investigation..
