FIELD: technological processes; measurement.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to mechanics of materials destruction. The surface layer of samples is deformed with diamond indenter. By characteristics of deformation the specific work of surface layer plastic deformation is calculated and compared to the value of energy of this layer destruction activation. The quantity of deformed material is assumed as constant, besides, for one action of operator automatically three actions of sclerometer are performed: indenter lowering to the tested surface, indenter introduction into surface layer at specified depth and tangential plowing of surface layer material is done with indenter at constant value of its deepening.
EFFECT: simplifies implementation of method and increase of surface layer material destruction activation energy estimation accuracy.
