FIELD: gas treatment. SUBSTANCE: effluent gases in chemical and metallurgical shops are treated to remove dust and injurious components involving wet particle-trapping technique. Method, in particular, comprises: circulation of liquid within absorber-tank system while additionally feeding liquid to compensate its losses, feeding liquid on different levels into absorber, spraying liquid to form drops, introducing effluent gases into the bottom of absorber, absorption of injurious impurities by liquid drops, and discharging cleaned gases from the top of absorber. Distinguishing feature of invention is that size of liquid drops when sprayed are maintained on each level with different diameters, greater-diameter drops (greater than 3 mm) being on higher level near effluent gas outlet. Liquid consumption is maintained constant by means of additionally feeding liquid on the higher level of absorber in amounts 3 to 10 cu.m/h and consumption of greater-diameter drops is controlled by effluent gas feeding velocity.
