FIELD: machine tool industry lathes. SUBSTANCE: method includes preliminary location of workpiece and its clamping by jaws at contact of wedge surfaces of jaws with wedge bevels of mounting device rods. To ensure against jamming of turner fingers when mounting small parts, and to improve accuracy of machining, workpiece is preliminarily fixed by spring- loaded jaws, and rods are installed for periodically contacting of their wedge bevels with wedge surfaces of jaws. Device has body, jaws with wedge surfaces and rods with wedge bevels installed on rest. To obtain result specified above and increase compactness of design, jaws are spring-loaded relative to side of mounted workpiece, and rods are installed for periodical contact through wedge bevels with wedge surfaces of jaws. Rods can be installed on rest for turning around their axis. Rest can be made in form of rectangular crossmember with two symmetrical cylindrical guides on its surface, one of guide being designed for contacting with hole in body and the other, with hole in bushing installed in hole of lathe spindle. Rectangular crossmember is fitted in slot of body. Device can be provided with strips installed in body for contacting with end face surface of lathe spindle flange.
