FIELD: mechanical engineering; cooling system of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed for use in engine cooling system and it relates to thermostat providing stable temperature conditions of engine. Thermostat contains housing in which two chambers are formed by partition. Said chambers are connected through bypass hole. One of chambers, namely, inlet chamber of cooling liquid from engine, is provided with outlet branch pipe to pass liquid to radiator and outlet branch pipe to pass liquid to passenger compartment heater circuit with engine starting aid circuit connected to passenger compartment heater circuit. Second chamber, namely, outlet chamber for cooling liquid to engine, is provided with inlet branch pipe to take in liquid from radiator. Said chamber accommodates thermopower element with main and bypass valves. Check valve installed in bypass hole is made in form of cup freely moving in bypass hole. Cups is provided with flange from side of outlet chamber. Centered spring is installed in cup. Second end of spring is fitted on end of axle of bypass valve. Bypass channels are made in partition around bypass hole. Said channels are overlapped by flange under action of compressed spring. Invention improved efficiency of operation of thermostat when engine starting aid is installed in cooling system of internal combustion engine to facilitate starting of engine by shutting off movement of heated liquid through thermostat when warming up engine before starting.
