FIELD: powder metallurgy, namely methods for making diamond tools, possibly bits for drilling geological exploration wells, diamond drill bits for centerless drilling, thin-wall annular drills for drilling concrete and ferroconcrete. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of forming matrix in graphite form; pressing, heating until impregnation temperature; hot pressing, cooling until temperature 350C in air at isothermic soaking at such temperature during 10 - 15 minutes; immersing tool to water with temperature 20C and soaking tool in water until equalizing temperature values of tool and water. EFFECT: enhanced strength, improved quality of diamond rock breaking tool due to increased level of main residual compression stresses in copper-nickel binder and respective enhanced holding of diamonds in matrix. 1 tbl
