FIELD: microbiology, toxicology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of analytical assay of toxicity. Method involves evaluation of growth of indicator test-cultures of microorganisms of genus Bacillus and Sarcina lutea B-110. Among genus Bacillus some microorganisms are selected based on the known sensitivity to probable toxic substances in medium to be analyzed. The general toxicity of medium is determined as integral criterion addend from resulting indices of growth of each test-culture being each of that is ranged by a single one, as a rule, three criteria of toxicity: normal growth, inhibited growth, absence of growth. Method ensures to determine the general level of medium toxicity taking into account the simultaneous and interacting toxic effect of different toxic substances. Invention can be used for assay of degree of toxicity of water and water- -soluble components of foodstuffs, fodders, soil and technological waste. EFFECT: improved method of toxicity assay. 1 ex
