FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machining of materials by cutting and it can be used for machining of plastic articles. According to proposed method relative shape forming motion is imparted to plastic blank and cutting tool with discrete feeding of workpiece. Prior to machining, surface of workpiece is treated with chemical reagents providing structural changes of material of blank to depth of allowance of material to be removed by one pass. Workpiece is exposed to chemical and mechanical machining at time interval required to provide structural transformations of blank material. Treatment of part surface with chemical reagent provides wedging of polymer macromolecules, thus decreasing energy of intermolecular interaction which, in its turn, leads to considerable reduction of strength of workpiece surface layer machined to definite depth and guarantees high quality of machined surface of plastic workpiece and increases capacity of machining process. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities at machining of plastic workpieces.
