FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of acetic acid. Method is performed by interaction of methanol and/or its reactive derivatives with carbon monoxide and hydrogen under elevated partial pressure of hydrogen in liquid reaction composite. Reaction composite involves the following components: (a) rhodium catalyst; (b) methyl halide, and (c) ruthenium compound. Hydrogen partial pressure is at least 0.3 MPa (3 bars) and total pressure = 2.0-5.0 MPa (20-50 bars). Invention provides decrease of formation of non-desirable by-side products.
