FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; making steel in oxygen converters. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes loading metal scrap , pouring cast iron and slag-forming component and blowing bath with gaseous oxidant. Slag- forming component is introduced in form of mixture of lime and ferruginous dolomite; consumption of this mixture is determined from the following expression: G f. d. = 2.14 x Si iron x B/(CaO) lime x 0.93, where Si iron is content of silicon in cast iron, %; G iron is mass of cast iron, t; B is required basicity of slag; (CaO) lime is content of calcium oxide in lime, % and G f.d. is mass of ferruginous dolomite, t/melt. Required content of MgO in slag is ensured due to calculation of mass of ferruginous dolomite introduced in converter bath, thus making it possible to perform melt by dephosphorization and keeping the lining intact.
