FIELD: working precious stones, namely faceting diamonds to brilliants. SUBSTANCE: apparatus for cutting diamond faces includes automatic control system, autonomous faceting device with head having indexing mechanism with unit for faceting diamond; and mechanism for setting load of faceting device. The last mechanism is connected with drive mechanism for rotating head of faceting device. Said drive mechanism is in the form of pulley arranged on platform rotating in vertical plane and provided with bracket. In order to automize process for working diamonds with complex morphological shape, there is limb with scale on head of faceting device for indicating grinding angle. Mechanism for rotating is provided with ring mounted coaxially relative to pulley with possibility of motion in axial direction. Said ring has on outer surface two diametrically opposite cams for control action upon rotation angle pickup and for engaging with pawl secured to platform. Point indicating grinding angle is also mounted on platform. Said ring has on its inner surface splines for engaging with pawl secured to pulley having limb on upper surface. EFFECT: enhanced design allowing to change grinding angle and to work diamond with complex morphological shape in automatic mode at preliminary looking for " soft direction". 6 dwg
