FIELD: manufacture of building materials. SUBSTANCE: in a process of fabrication of refractory briquettes serving as process fuel in shaft and firing processes, thermal strength of briquettes is imparted simultaneously with their burning. Briquettes are fabricated from hydrocarbon- containing stock with no more than 14% volatiles (based on ash-free dry matter), which is prepared by first separating by screening fraction no larger than 10 mm, adding 5 to 25% of coking coal or ground petroleum coke with 25-35% volatiles, molding and drying briquettes. Binding agent for briquettes used in amounts no higher than 20% is in powdered or liquid form, in particular lignosulfonate. EFFECT: improved consumer's properties of briquettes due to their stable heat-strength characteristics, reduced fabrication expenses, and expanded functional possibilities of process by relieving restriction in choice of binding agents. 4 cl, 6 ex
