FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves charging burden containing lump oxidized nickel-containing ore and reductant fuel into shaft furnace; providing reducing-sulfidizing melting, with blast-furnace and lump petroleum coke being used as reductant fuel in an amount of (40-95):(60-5)wt.%, respectively. Method allows low-grade nickel matte to be produced in shaft furnace.
