FIELD: refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: homogeneously nickel-alloyed titanium carbide is prepared by metallothermic reduction of mixture of titanium and carbon chlorides stirred with magnesium alloy containing 3-9% nickel, magnesium consumption achieving 20 to 30%. Invention offers economical effect due to lowered cost of starting materials used to form cermet (by 15-25%) without use of expensive carbide and nickel powders and excluded non-feasible conversions when preparing charge.
