FIELD: refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: method is realized as high-temperature synthesis of titanium- containing compounds in nitrogen atmosphere involving magnesium-thermal reduction of (4.2-5.1):1 mixture of titanium tetrachloride and tetrachloroethylene at 1010-1080 C. Product is duly composed homogenous titanium carbonitride with minimum impurities prepared at lower (by 15-25%) owing to use of industrial-grade products and reduced process temperature.
