FIELD: mining industry; applicable in quantitative evaluation of geomechanical role of fill mass in its interaction with pillars of various application. SUBSTANCE: method includes compression testing of cylindrical rock sample-fill material system in rigid matrices at different values of ratio of height of fill material filling the gap between walls of rigid cylindrical matrix and sample to sample height. Rock samples which ratio of sample height to its diameter is at least 2 are installed in matrices so that sample axis runs through matrix axis, with subsequent compression testing and construction of rock sample vertical deformation - vertical stress compression curves. Relative reaction of fill mass is determined by mathematical expression. EFFECT: reduced labor input and higher efficiency of evaluation of bearing capacity of pillars in deposit mining with filling for provision of geodynamic safety of ground surface. 8 dwg
