FIELD: sorbents. SUBSTANCE: raw wood is broken, mixed with waterproofing substance, and the total is subjected to two-step drying and then to two-step pyrolysis, wherein temperature raised to 550-700 C in pyrolysis products milieu. Process is carried out on installation comprising heat generator, gas distributor, gas flues, retorts, heating chambers, and discharge collector, said gas distributor and said discharge collector being provided with heat carrier stream switching means permitting retorts to be in-series connected to pyrolysis process. In the bottom sections of each retort, perforated gate provided with mobile cylinder is mounted, which is shut off before withdrawal of retorts after pyrolysis process is ended. Heated chambers enclose segment plates staggered in vertical direction, which serve to direct heat carrier transversely round the retorts. Lowest segment plate is perforated to make upward way for gaseous pyrolysis products. Over this plate, heat carrier from heat generator and secondary air are passed to complete burning of pyrolysis products. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 6 cl, 6 dwg, 2 tbl, 10 ex
