FIELD: measurement technology, hydrophysics, measurement of average speeds and turbulence characteristics of sea currents. SUBSTANCE: converter of speeds of sea currents includes generator of current whirls and detector of current whirls coming in the form of signal and reference fibers optically matched with source of coherent light and photodetector in Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Signal and reference fibers are coiled into gauze structure with alternating parts of sensitive and reference fibers. EFFECT: reliable isolation of valid pulsations of current formed by generator of whirls against background of turbulence noise and capability to measure average speed of current. 2 dwg
