SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of measuring in each stand rolling effort, interroll gap and fluctuation of strip thickness relative to preset value at outlet of rolling mill; controlling thickness of strip in each stand by means of screwdown mechanism; for last stand of mill measuring for previous strip rolling effort P1 and interroll gap S1 and averaging said parameters for one revolution of backup roll and real thickness h1 of strip at outlet of mill; measuring interroll gap S2 before rolling next strip and determining preset rolling effort P2set in last stand according to expressions: P2set= P1 + Mk(Δh - ΔS), where Mk - elasticity module of stand; Δh = h2set - h1; where h2set - preset thickness of next strip; ΔS = S2 - S1.
