FIELD: glassmaking. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacture of liquid glass suited to be used in manufacturing welding electrodes (electrode coatings), lacquering and acid-resistant materials and coatings, and refractory concrete production. Crushed silicate block and water preheated to 80-90 C are loaded in ball mill to perform grinding and dissolution. Mill drum rotates with speed ppm, where D is internal diameter of mill drum, m. Mill is filled with spherical, chiefly metallic, bodies with two different diameters related to each other as (2-3):1, while their weight ratio is (1.7-2.0):1. Mill filling degrees for balls and silicate block are alike values and both constitute one third mill volume. In addition, ratio of large-diameter balls to silicate block pieces is (3-4):1. To preserve temperature inside mill, its outside surface is coated with heat-insulation layer. Invention allows achieving 100% degree of grinding and dissolution of silicate block in water.
