FIELD: fire retardants. SUBSTANCE: burning of polymer substrate is retarded by adding effective, burning-inhibiting amount of sterically hindered amine having following formula: , where each of G1 and G2 denotes alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or G1 and G2 together form pentamethylene; each of Z1 and Z2 denotes methyl or Z1 and Z2 together form linking group optionally substituted by ester, ether, amine, amino, carboxy, or urethane group; and E denotes C1-C18- alkoxy, C5-C12-cycloalcoxy, C7-C25-aralcoxy, or C6-C-aryloxy. Subject amines are particularly effective in inhibiting burning of polyolefins and styrene polymers. When sterically hindered amines are supplemented by phosphorus, boron, silicon, and/or antimony compounds, which are also effective burning inhibitors, elevated or synergetic retardation of burning is observed. EFFECT: expanded burning inhibition possibilities. 8 cl, 3 tbl, 37 ex
