FIELD: purification of natural sweet water from contaminants. SUBSTANCE: method involves treating water in cathodic chamber of diaphragm-type electrochemical reactor; purifying water in hermetically sealed flotation reactor and discharging part of water in conjunction with gases and colloid particles of heavy metal hydroxides; treating clarified flow in anodic chamber of diaphragm-type electrochemical reactor with the use of one or several diaphragm-type electrochemical reactors; treating water in cathodic and anodic chambers of the same reactor or different reactors; before treating water in anodic chamber, processing water in main catalytic reactor filled with granules of hydrophilic mineral substance, with water flow being directed from the top to the bottom; providing water dechlorination after treatment in anodic chamber. After water treatment in anodic chamber and before dechlorination, water may be held in mixing reactor and/or treated in additional catalytic reactor filled with particles of hydrophilic mineral substance, with size of said particles varying from 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm. Method may be used for purifying of water from microorganisms, heavy metal ions, toxic organic compounds and colloid suspensions. EFFECT: increased extent of purifying water from solved contaminants, in particular, heavy metal ions and iron ions, provision for eliminating increased content of active chlorine, wider operational capabilities by using unified water treatment processes depending on water composition, and improved quality of water treatment by imparting optimal properties to water independent of initial composition, pH value and redox potential. 11 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
