TITANIUM HYDRIDE PRODUCTION PROCESS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2208573 C1

FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: process consists in burning-type reaction of titanium with hydrogen in reaction space of water-cooled sealed reactor under hydrogen pressure, reaction being locally initiated by ignition of titanium followed by proceeding of self-propagation high-temperature synthesis, cooling and isolating reaction product. More specifically, titanium catalyst is composed of spongy titanium powder alone or on admixture with polydisperse titanium powder, which is taken in amount of no more than 50% of spongy titanium. Initial hydrogen pressure is at least 2 MPa and synthesis is carried out constant hydrogen pressure at least 0.3 MPa. Synthesis product is additionally cooled preferably in hydrogen flow. Spongy titanium is used as fraction - 100+12 or -70+12, or -12+5, or -12+2, or - 5+2 mm, or as mixture of these fractions in any proportions, or as mixture of at least one of them with polydisperse titanium powder fraction -+1.5 mm, preferably no less than 1.8 mm. Powdered spongy titanium is used in the form of briquettes tightly filling reaction space. In some cases, hydrogen cooling desired product can be diluted by argon or carbon monoxide un amounts not exceeding 50 vol %. EFFECT: increased productivity of process and titanium hydride is enriched in hydrogen. 7 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl, 3 ex
