FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy, particularly, to production of fine titanium hydride powder by processing titanium chips using the hydrogenation method. It can be used in nuclear power engineering, chemical industry, for production of finely dispersed titanium powder, for production of porous and composite material, as hydrogen source, moisture absorber, in thermite and igniting compositions, during heat treatment of parts. Titanium chips preliminarily pressed into briquettes to relative density of 0.30-0.55 are mixed with 50-70 wt.% of titanium sponge. Combustion process is initiated at initial hydrogen pressure in reactor of at least 2 MPa and self-propagating high-temperature synthesis is performed at constant hydrogen pressure of at least 1 MPa. Obtained titanium hydride is ground to fine powder with particle size of 20-80 mcm.
EFFECT: possibility of processing production wastes in form of titanium chips.
