FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, designs of vacuum arc furnaces for melting castings of refractory, highly reactive metals and alloys, for instance, titanium. SUBSTANCE: furnace has mold with bottom, vacuum system and cooling system. Additional vessel of reserve water storage is found above mold level and successively connected by means of pipelines and fittings with cooling cavities of bottom and mold and forms together with them closed self-circulating system of evaporating cooling system. EFFECT: provided cooling of furnace without damage to its structure and preserved melted casting in case of emergency disconnection of external sources of heat carrier supply to system of cooling. 2 tbl, 1 dwg
