FIELD: non- ferrous metallurgy; production of magnesium and chlorine by electrolysis of anhydrous chlorides. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes electrolysis of anhydrous chlorides and decontamination of exhaust gases containing chlorine and hydrogen chloride by alkali sorbent obtaining chlorine-magnesium solutions. Decontamination of exhaust gases is performed in presence of carbamide in the amount of 10-80 kg in terms of 100-% carbamide per cu. m of alkali sorbent; used as alkali sorbent are oxide compounds of magnesium magnesite and/or brucite; decontamination is performed at temperature of 30-100 C; chlorinemagnesium solutions thus obtained are treated with gaseous hydrogen chloride or hydrochloric acid at pH~1,0-5,5 and are directed for production of anhydrous magnesium chlorides. EFFECT: utilization of exhaust gases; avoidance of decontamination of waste milk. 2 tbl, 1 ex
