METHOD OF PROTECTION OF LOCALITY AGAINST FOULING WITH HARMFUL LIQUID SUBSTANCES DURING EMERGENCY EJECTION Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: pipe-line transport of oil, oil products and other liquids harmful for environment. SUBSTANCE: invention deals with decision aimed at reduction of after-effects of emergency spillage of liquid in locality by way of collection of spreading liquid into sumps rapidly erected at point of emergency, predominantly on soils showing low bearing capacity. Method of protection of locality against fouling with harmful liquid substances during emergency ejection includes erection of protective structure on surface of ground closed around perimeter and pumping of harmful liquid substance into protective structure. Protective structure is built up of soft impermeable shells laid snug against one another along spiral in the form of ring in plan in several rows along vertical on ground surface in close proximity to point of emergency ejection. Number of turns of spiral in each next row decreases by one unit, rings of mentioned shells of one row are joined to rings of another row starting from lowest row under pressure not less than hydrostatic pressure of column of liquid equal to height of protective structure. Mentioned shells can be filled with harmful liquid substances. In case of infiltration of harmful liquid substances into soil and their runaway beyond limits protective structure diversion ditch is dug along its outer perimeter and pit is prepared for gathering of harmful liquid substances flowing along ditch. As soon as pit is filled filtered harmful liquid substances are pumped back into protective structure. Shield impermeable for harmful liquid substance is arranged inside protective structure.
