FIELD: mining and construction; applicable in construction of shallow tunnels with help of tunneling shield. SUBSTANCE: method includes construction of inlet and outlet foundation pits, driving from outlet foundation pit over constructed tunnel route of guide hole with laying of supporting tube in it; location of jack station in inlet foundation pit; reaming of hole with concurrent forcing of supporting tube out of hole by action of jack station; excavation of ground in face and ground haulage; construction of tunnel lining. Supporting tube is forced out by introduction into hole of pressing cylinder attached to tunneling shield front end and subsequent action through said cylinder onto tube. Reaming of guide hole is effected behind pressing cylinder in lower part of tunneling shield in face whose cross-section is in form of arch whose base width exceeds diameter of guide hole and guide hole contour is inscribed into arch apex. Device for tunnel construction includes tunneling shield with cutter-thrusting section and control hydraulic cylinders, jack station and plant for excavation and haulage of ground. Tunneling shield has pressing cylinder fixed with its one end to front end of cutter-thrusting section. Tunneling shield shell is made in form of arch whose base width exceeds outer diameter of pressing cylinder, and external contour of the latter in its cross-section is inscribed into external contour of shell top. Plant for excavating and haulage of ground is located behind pressing cylinder in lower part of tunneling shield. EFFECT: reduced destroying effect of ground mass above constructed tunnel. 2 cl, 2 dwg
