FIELD: restoration of rail road moving stock, namely repairing housing of automatic couplers with bent stems. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of performing heating and straightening in one apparatus providing heating of bent zone of stem of housing of automatic coupler until temperature no less than 800 C and applying bending effort to end portion of stem at automatically fastening it. Apparatus for performing the method includes rectangular window in upper part of housing for placing stem in it. Lateral faces of said window have slopes providing close abutting to lateral faces of supported stem during straightening process at cantilever jamming of head of automatic coupler. In lower part of housing two hydraulic cylinders are mounted in mutually normal directions. Limiting stops are arranged in front of said hydraulic cylinders. Working surfaces of said stops are in the same planes as corresponding to them faces of rectangular window. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency, lowered energy consumption. 2 cl, 3 dwg
