FIELD: machining of metals, grinding of parts with outer elliptical surfaces. SUBSTANCE: self-centering head includes hollow mandrel mounted for rotation in body. The latter is hinged to base. Grinding wheel is made of individual honing sticks forming peripheral inner cutting surface. In process of dressing it is divided into parts equal in height and placed at angle α with rotation axis of wheel. Honing sticks are fixed on cams mounted for radial movement in holes of hollow mandrel. Inner diameter of wheel is adjusted by means of minor bevel pinion engaged into mesh with conical gear ring of spiral disc. The latter interacts with cams mentioned above.
