FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for hydrogenation of alpha-methylstyrene containing in alpha-methylstyrene fraction formed in processing cleavage products of cumene hydroperoxide. Hydrogenation is carried out at enhanced temperatures, preferably at 100-200 C and under pressure, preferably, at 10-30 atm and volume rate of liquid raw feeding 0.9-15 h-1. Alumopalladium catalyst containing palladium in the amount 0.2-0.3 wt.-% and treated additionally with copper nitrate solution with copper content 0.6-6.0 g/l followed by drying in air and thermal treatment in hydrogen atmosphere or hydrogen-containing gas. Invention provides reduced consumption of palladium and expanded range of temperature and pressure values. EFFECT: improved hydrogenation method. 2 cl, 2 tbl, 11 ex
