SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for preparing alkylene glycols used as a raw in synthesis of complex polyesters, simple polyesters, antifreeze, dissolved surface-active substances and as solvents and basic materials in preparing polyethylene terephthalates. Method involves interaction of alkylene oxide with water in the presence of anion- exchange resin as a catalyst and combination of addition that involves carbon dioxide and organic or inorganic base, such as sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium hydrocarbonate or their any combination taken in the amount providing the resin swelling rate value less 1.0% per a day. Process can be carried out in system of adiabatic reactor, system of isothermic reactor or in their combination. EFFECT: prolonged exploitation period, enhanced activity of catalyst. 12 cl, 1 tbl
