FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing alkylene glycol which is used in antifreeze compositions, as a solvent and as base material for producing polyalkylene terephthalates. The method involves a reaction between water and alkylene oxide in at least one reactor in alkylene glycol synthesis conditions, where said at least one reactor includes an anion-exchange resin-based catalyst and said reactor operates in a direction with an ascending stream when the speed of moving from bottom-up is sufficient for expanding or fluidising the catalyst layer, with addition of carbon dioxide into the reaction mixture in an amount equal to or less than 0.1 wt % and a pH regulating additive to obtain pH ranging from about 5.0 to about 9.0. A method of producing monoethylene glycol is also provided.
EFFECT: prevent invention enables to realise the disclosed methods with a longer service life of the catalyst.
