FIELD: electromagnetic investigations, search, detection and identification of routes of underwater lengthy metal-containing objects, underwater pipe-lines, power cables included. SUBSTANCE: method includes excitation of electromagnetic field by dipole radiation source in sequence along three directions: first along longitudinal axis of submersible vehicle along direction of its movement, then with displacement to one and the other sides from diametrical plane of submersible vehicle in plane parallel to its main plane, measurement of secondary electromagnetic field in four points of submersible vehicle as minimum by receiving dipoles, formation of secondary signals which value and change in time of movement of submersible vehicle are used to make decision on presence of lengthy underwater object. Moments when its route of lying is crossed are fixed, angular and side displacements of submersible vehicle from route of lying of underwater lengthy object are determined during its detection. Dependence of signals of receiving electric dipoles on change of position of submersible vehicle with reference to bottom is determined right before start of search and detection of current-conducting lengthy object in area of search where there are no current-conducting objects. In process of search and detection of current-conducting lengthy underwater object signals form receiving dipoles are corrected with due account of this dependence and are used in corrected form to form secondary signals. EFFECT: correction of errors in determination of moments of crossing of lengthy underwater object, in angular and side displacement of submersible vehicle from route of object lying. 5 cl, 4 dwg
