FIELD: carbon materials. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed for adsorption engineering, electrical engineering, and electronics and can be used when preparing active carbons and electrode materials. Nanoporous carbon material powder with volume of nanopores 0.49 cu.cm/g and specific surface 1330 sq. m/g is impregnated with liquid oxidant, e.g., 30-65% nitric acid. Powder is then aged for 15 min at ambient temperature and residual pressure no higher than 100 Pa. Impregnated powder is placed in a flask and flooded with acid observing acid-to-carbon material weight ratio 10:1. After holding for 2 h in water bath at 80 C, acid is decanted and powder is washed to remove acid to pH value equal to at least 3 and dried at 110 +/- 5 C. Content of functional groups, which should be at least 1.0 mmole/g, is measured, after which heat treatment is carried out under argon atmosphere at 300-800 C using heating velocity 20oC/min and material is then allowed to stand for 1 h. Oxidation-heat treatment cycle is repeated until required dimensions and pore size are attained.
