FIELD: rubber industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacture of modified butyl rubbers, in particular bromobutyl rubber applicable in tire and technical rubber industries for fabricating sealing layer of tubeless tires, adhesive compositions, heat-resistant tapes, sealing compositions and the like. For that end, butyl rubber solution in hydrocarbon solvent is treated with brominating agent to form bromobutyl rubber, which is neutralized and then subjected to water degassing and subsequent drying. Initial butyl rubber is one with Mooney viscosity 52-60 units and unsaturation 2.0 mol %. Brominating agent is agent formed on treating hydrobromic acid salt in acidic water with chlorine gas at molar ratio (0.3-2):1 and further used either as it is or when diluted with inert diluent. Amount of hydrobromic acid salt is 5-7% of the weight of butyl rubber. EFFECT: lowered Mooney viscosity and improved rheometric characteristics of rubber. 3 cl, 1 tbl, 16 ex
