FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing carbon nanotubes that can be used in preparing lithium battery, adsorbents, mesomorphic materials. Granules of catalyst based on transient metal, for example, cobalt or nickel applied on SiO2 are charged into reaction tube. Catalyst can be prepared by alkoxide or sol-gel method. Catalyst is heated to 400-900 C, reaction gas containing CO2 and reductive gas, for example, H2 are fed. Highly functional carbon, for example, carbon nanotubes is precipitated on catalyst surface. Invention provides preparing carbon nanotubes under usual pressure, at lower temperature for a single stage and allows to control structure of prepared carbon also depending on conditions of reaction and type of catalyst.
