FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vibration damping devices, particularly, to hydraulic vibration dampers installed on railway passenger cars. Proposed vibration damper contains shock absorber enclosed in protective housing with at least one hole communicating with space communicating with atmosphere and formed by protective housing and space limiter which is secured on protective housing by three edges. Damper can be furnished also with at least one additional limiter secured by three edges on protective housing to form additional space communicating with corresponding hole made in protective housing, summary volume of spaces exceeding maximum volume of chamber limited by shock absorber and protective housing. Shock absorber can be of hydraulic or hydropneumatic type. EFFECT: reduced labor input, overall dimensions and metal usage. 4 cl, 2 dwg
