FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed combination labyrinth/brush seal is designed to provide sealing between rotating and fixed components of machines. Seal contains great number of arc-shaped sealing segments, each provided with one or more labyrinth teeth passing radially to surface of rotating component. Brush seal is installed among labyrinth teeth as primary equipment or for modernization. Brush seal is arranged in slot formed in sealing surface of sealing segment. According to one design version, rear and/or front plates of brush seal is provided with tongue getting into axial groove of sealing segments to prevent relative movement of brush seal and sealing ring segments in radial direction. End face surfaces of brush seal and sealing ring segments can be bored and filled up with welding material to prevent relative movement in circumferential direction. When one slot passing in radial direction is made in sealing ring segment, brush seal can be welded to sealing ring segment at opposite sides of brush seal.
