FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, preparation for pouring of metal into molds consisting of separate working walls. SUBSTANCE: method includes application to mold working walls of coating, subsequent pouring of steel into mold, supply to steel meniscus in mold during metal pouring of slag-forming mixture and withdrawal of casting from mold. Supplied prior to steel pouring to joints between mold working walls is coating substance including 10-20% of aluminum phosphate, 60-85% of alumina and 5-20% of slag-forming mixture intended for its supply to steel meniscus in mold in process of teeming. Coating substance is applied to joints on length equaling 0.4-0.6 height of working walls on side of upper end of mold. After supply of coating substance to joints between working walls, it is removed from surface of wall sections adjacent to wall joints. EFFECT: higher quality of continuously cast castings, efficiency of process of steel continuous casting and increased stability of mold. 2 cl, 1 tbl
