FIELD: application of protective coatings, possibly in machine engineering for applying wear resistant chrome coatings designed for operation in severe corrosion condition. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of acting by means of pressure of tool having polished working surface during electrolysis process upon coated surface while alternating periods of screening and chrome deposition in such a way that duration of each screening period is no more than 0.1 s and duration of each period of chrome deposition is no more than 0.7 s; acting upon coated surface by means of pressure whose value is preliminarily determined according to decaying of sound of dry friction between tool and chromated surface until complete dieing out of such sound. Invention allows to set necessary value of pressure created by means of tool for realizing chrome-plating process without using pickups in chrome containing electrolyte and without measuring instruments. EFFECT: enlarged manufacturing possibilities of method, stable quality of coating on articles of any size and shape. 4 cl, 5 tbl, 8 dwg
