FIELD: production of sulfur oxide accumulating material containing magnesium aluminate; removal of sulfur oxides from oxygen-containing waste gases in industrial processes. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes calcination of magnesium aluminum hydrotalcite at molar ratio of magnesium oxide to aluminum oxide from 1.1:1 to 10:1 at temperature of 400 to 600 C continued during 1 to 10 h, after which accumulating material is impregnated by at least one preceding soluble compound, such as oxides of alkali-earth metals: calcium oxide, strontium oxide and barium oxide followed by repeated calcination. Accumulating material is additionally impregnated by at least one preceding soluble compound of rare-earth metals followed by repeated calcination. After calcination, accumulating material is impregnated with preceding soluble compound of one of metals: metals of platinum group, palladium and rhodium. After calcination accumulating material is impregnated by at least one preceding soluble compound, such as oxides of alkali-earth metals: calcium oxide, strontium oxide and barium oxide of at last one of rare-earth metals and preceding compounds of metals of platinum group, such as platinum, palladium and rhodium followed by repeated calcination.
