FIELD: processes and equipment for electron beam welding, possibly welding refractory and heat resistant materials in different branches of machine engineering. SUBSTANCE: high voltage power source heats cathode providing electron emission. Electrons are drawn away through hole of potential-bias grid by means of electric field between cathode and accelerating anode with opening; electrons pass through anode opening to electrostatic focusing lens arranged in direction from accelerating anode to welded article. Focusing lens is made of three successively mounted electrodes in the form of flared parts gradually narrowing from accelerating anode to welded article. There is gap between first and second electrodes for accelerating electrons. Between second and third electrodes there is gap for decelerating electrons. EFFECT: enhanced quality of welding due to improved focusing of electron beam, lowered power consumption and size of apparatus. 3 dwg
