FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy; control of process of electrolytic production of aluminum from alumina. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes measurement of current and voltage at electrolyzer, determination of adjusted voltage and stabilization of this voltage at preset level by changing inter-polar distance every 10- 60 minutes. Then, change of adjusted voltage during previous period of control and ratio of this change to change of inter-polar distance at previous period of control are determined and preset level of adjusted voltage in present period of control is change in direct proportion relative to deflection of this ratio from nominal value. Inter-polar distance at each period of control is changed by at least preset absolute magnitude within 0.4-2.0 mm.
